Obituary for Guy Burns Beacom

Print
Springfield, MASSACHUSETTS
Columbus, INDIANA
Guy Burns Beacom, 68, died peacefully at the “hospice house of comfortable death and discount pain management emporium” on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He was born on December 11, 1949, in Western Pennsylvania, most noticeably to Ethel Swift Burns of Manhattan, New York and Benjamin Charles Beacom of the middle of nowhere, Western Pennsylvania.

Guy grew up in and about Westbury, NY where he met his wife and lifelong partner of 50 years Martha Ann Macdonald. Guy moved himself and small family to Springfield, Massachusetts in 1973 to attend law school at Western New England College where he terrified, intrigued, fascinated and finally graduated to become one of the most excellent lawyers of all time. He continued to practice law in the Springfield area for 40 years helping many clients navigate the justice system. Guy detested lawyers but was a champion of the law. He maintained his career path unreservedly as it was the most lucrative way for him to argue and get paid to do it. He could always win an argument.

Guy was an avid fisherman and well known for his love of the sport. He spent many summer days chasing a good catch in the Atlantic Ocean and on the pond behind his home in Wilbraham. He released many more fish than he kept. His understanding of natural conservation was in direct contradiction to his magnificent killer instinct. Many fish will attest to this.

Guy was deeply committed to his family and the work he did as a lay minister for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a profound influence on the lives of many as a thoughtful, faithful leader and disciple of Christ.

Guy had a unique and ever present sense of humor that had a joyful effect on those around him. He is survived by many family members who wish him well on the next leg of his journey including a son, four daughters, 13 grandchildren and many dozens of friends who would not be who we are without his irreverent and deeply loving influence.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 584 West St., Ludlow, MA, at 2pm on Saturday, October 13, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Mr. Beacom’s honor be made to the Humanitarian Aid Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at https://ldsphilanthropies.org/humanitarian-services or by mail, LDS Philanthropies, 1450 N.
