Obituary for Hector J. Giovannucci

Northborough
Hector J. Giovannucci, a longtime resident of Northborough, retired police officer, and a proud WWII veteran passed away on September 20, 2018, at the age of 92. His wife Phyllis N. (Olson) Giovannucci passed away in 1991.
Hector was born in Worcester, a son to the late Ferdinando and Mary (Tarallo) Giovannucci. After graduating from Worcester Boy’s Trade he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country during WWII. Upon his return he joined the Northborough Police Dept. and served his community for 25 years as a patrolman and sergeant. A true testament to his character and work ethic, after his retirement in 1990, Hector continued to work well into his 80’s as a boiler fireman and deliveryman for Modern Manufacturing in Worcester. He enjoyed working with his hands and enjoyed woodworking and was a talented millwright.
Community was important to Hector; he enjoyed being social with those he met and would always be willing to lend a hand. He served as past president of the Northborough Rotary and was a former member of the American Legion. Hector was the go to person if you needed to know about Western movies! As an avid sports fan he enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots although, the pleasure of following his children and grandchildren’s sporting events proved immeasurable.
A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, Hector will be missed by his four children, Robert and his wife Deborah of Swampscott, Randall and his wife Cynthia Viens of Shrewsbury, Judith Boucher and her husband Stephen of Gorham, ME, Linda Bishop and her husband Gary of Northborough; a daughter-in-law, Debra Giovannucci of South Grafton, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Robert and his wife Judy of Charlton. Hector was preceded in death by his son, Clifford, his son Richard and wife Lauren, and seven brothers and 2 sisters.
Calling hours will be held from 5-7pm on Monday, September 24th, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Hector’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 25th, at 11am in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Howard Street Cemetery.
