James V. Casella II

James “Jim” Casella II, 89, of Harwich, MA, passed away, Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Prior to relocating to Harwich in July, 2016, Jim resided with his wife, Gigi, and family in Northborough, MA for 49 years. He was proud, patriotic, and characteristically strong-willed all the way until his final breath on Earth.

Jim was born March 2, 1929 in Framingham, MA to James and Mary (Cardeleen) Casella. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War era. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Jim earned his diploma from the Bentley School of Accounting, his B.B.A. in Accounting from Northeastern University, and his M.B.A. from Babson College. Jim was also a proud member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Jim worked for over 20 years at Heald Machine Corp in Worcester, MA, where he served as Chief Financial Officer for many years. During his time at Heald, Jim also served as a Director, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Massachusetts for 12 years and a Director, Worcester Area System for Affordable Health Care. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Finance, Anna Maria College Graduate School of Business and served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Worcester, MA. After leaving Heald, he opened his own CPA practice and was a proud member of the National Federation of Independent Business for over 20 years.

Jim was also an active volunteer in Northborough, serving as Chair and long-time member of the Northborough Finance Committee. He was also active with the Northborough Senior Center and served as Grand Marshall, along with his wife Gigi, of the 2007 Applefest Parade.

Jim is survived by his wife Ghislaine “Gigi” (Breyne) to whom he was married for 60 years; his children James V. Casella III and his wife Sandy of Framingham, MA, Caroline Geishecker and her husband David of Harwich, MA, and John Casella and his wife Lisa of McLean, VA; 6 grandchildren Jack, Kyle, Jason, Rose, Kasey, and Lauren; and 1 great granddaughter Layla.

In lieu of flowers Jim’s family respectfully request memorial donations be made to either Vincent F. Picard American Legion Post 234, 402 W. Main Street, Northborough, MA 01532 or Friends of the Northborough Senior Center, 119 Bearfoot Road, Northborough, MA 01532, .

Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Monday, October 22, 2018 at St. Pius X Parish, 5 Barbara St, South Yarmouth. Jim will then be laid to rest in the Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth.
