Obituary for Judith Ann Stern (Cranford)

Northborough--Judith A. (Cranford) Stern, passed away Tuesday, July 2, surrounded by her family. She leaves her husband of 50 years, Gregory C. Stern and two sons; Christopher Stern and his wife Michelle, of Holden and E. Scott Stern and his wife Kelly, of Bluffton, SC; two granddaughters, Lexi and Isabella Ann; and a brother, Norman Cranford, Jr., of Fernandina Beach, FL. She was predeceased by her parents Norman and Shirley (Niles) Cranford and her brother Tom.

Judith was born November 11, 1948 in Baldwin, Long Island. She graduated from Exeter High School in New Hampshire and attended the University of Vermont, where she met her husband. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Judith was a dedicated preschool teacher. She taught preschool at the Congregational Church of Westborough and the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. In 2008, Judith and her long time friend and co-teacher, Antonia Orrizzi, opened the Play-Learn Preschool in Worcester, retiring in 2015.

A Northborough resident since 1979, Judith enjoyed volunteering with the book club at Whitney Place Assisted Living. She was an avid reader, outstanding cook and baker and an exceptional sailor. She and her husband enjoyed sailing together for more than 25 years. She loved to travel, especially to the Caribbean, Cabo San Lucas and Europe and enjoyed flower gardening.

A Celebration of Judith's Life will be held at Whitney Place, 238 West Main, Northborough, MA, on July 7, at 2 o'clock. A private burial in the Bourne National Veteran's Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Dana Farber, 20 Prospect St., Milford, MA 01757, to the Resident Activities Fund, Whitney Place, 238 West Main, Northborough, MA 01532.
