Walter E. Munyon passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2018; he was 101 years old. Walter was born in West Boylston, Mass, the son of George and Ada (Silver) Munyon. He spent most of his childhood in Clinton. Walter owned and operated Munyon Painting Co. in Berlin during the 1950s-1970s. He later worked as a custodian at Algonquin Regional HS until his retirement at which time he continued custodial duties at Trinity Church of Northborough.
Always a tinkerer, Walter enjoyed rolling up his sleeves and working on automobile engines and other mechanical equipment. In his senior years, he found enjoyment in making custom designed mailboxes to share with friends and family. A Fourth of July baby, Walter always had great birthday parties on the 4th to celebrate with his family.
Walter is survived by his devoted wife of 79 years, Phyllis C. (Thomas) Munyon, 1 daughter, Marjorie Ivey of Locust Grove, GA; 5 sons, William Munyon and his wife, Jeanie of Waller, TX, Donald Munyon and his wife Jo-Ann of Bolton, James Munyon and his wife Cathy of Berlin, Robert Munyon and his wife Diane of Queensbury, NY, and Stephen Munyon and his wife Susan of Lancaster. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Munyon.
A Calling hour will be held on Wednesday, October 10th, from 9:30-10:30 AM at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Walter’s funeral will take place at 10:30am, immediately at the conclusion of the visitation time. Burial will follow in the North Cemetery, Highland Street, Berlin.
